The North Texas RPG Con was started in 2009.
In previous years, Mike Badolato had discussed having an annual get together of various people that frequented the D&D collector community site called The Acaeum (http://www.acaeum.com).
In 2008, a few of those members got together for an impromptu back yard BBQ on July 4th weekend. They included Mike Badolato, John Liles, John January, Brian Kawano, and Doug Rhea.
The following year in February, Mike & Doug decided to put together an actual convention to be held in Bedford, Texas.
The main focus of the convention is "old school" RPG gaming. Mostly on D&D type RPGs, but just about any RPG based game prior to 1985. Any RPG based game from any time frame is welcome at the convention, but most "special guests" and sponsored game events are for older games.
The First Annual North Texas RPG Convention was held at the La Quinta Inn & Suites Bedford, Texas on June 5th through June 7th 2009.
The list of "special guests" attending the first convention were:
Jason Braun - artist
Frank Mentzer - game designer
Paul Jaquays - artist, game designer
Tim Kask - game designer
Rob Kuntz - game designer
Dennis Sustare - game designer
